Weldments
Weldments are structural assemblies created by joining individual pieces of stock material—such as tubing, pipe, plate, angle, channel, or beam—through welding.
In CAD, weldments are developed from a three-dimensional skeletal framework. Standard structural profiles are applied along defined paths, members are automatically trimmed and fitted at joints, and secondary features such as weld beads, gussets, and end caps are added. The completed model generates precise cut lists, material quantities, and detailed fabrication drawings, ensuring the design moves efficiently from digital model to shop floor.
Sheet Metal
Sheet metal refers to components formed from a single flat sheet of metal that is cut to shape and then bent or formed into a three-dimensional part.
In CAD, sheet-metal design incorporates material thickness, bend radius, and forming parameters so the software can automatically calculate accurate flat patterns. These flat patterns provide the exact outlines and bend lines required for laser cutting, punching, or press-brake operations, allowing the finished part to fold correctly during fabrication with minimal material waste and consistent results.
